How to grow delicious strawberries and what to feed them with in the spring: tips for gardeners

Now it seems that the strawberry season is still far away. You will have to take care of the berry patch very soon. So it's time to get ready for work.

OBOZ.UA asked experienced gardeners about life hacks on how to start the strawberry growing season correctly. They called soil care and plant fertilization the most important.

The first step is to clean the garden. It is very important to remove everything that has been on the ground during the winter. This includes old leaves, mulch that was used to cover the bushes from frost, and other debris. Also, after the first warm weather, it is necessary to remove all weeds that will sprout in the spring. And before applying fertilizer, you need to loosen the bed so that it can better penetrate the soil.

For strawberries to grow especially large and sweet, you should prepare a liquid foliar feeding for them, which is applied at the very beginning of the season, as soon as the first leaves bloom. Here's what you'll need:

• sifted wood ash - 1 cup;
• potassium permanganate - 2 grams;
• boric acid powder - 2 grams;
• iodine - 1 tablespoon.

Pour the ash into a bucket, cover with two liters of hot water and mix well. When the solution has cooled, strain it and add potassium permanganate, boric acid, and iodine. Bring the volume of fertilizer to 10 liters and spray the berry bushes liberally. In addition to nutritional benefits, this spraying also provides additional protection against pests.

You can also add mineral fertilizers to the strawberries. For example, urea or ammonium nitrate is diluted in a ratio of 25 grams per 10 liters and the strawberries are spilled with the resulting solution. You can also use water-infused manure or chicken manure.
