How to easily get rid of mold on the soil of indoor plants: a simple method without chemicals
Indoor plants are not as susceptible to various diseases as those growing in the open field, but they still have a whole bunch of annoying problems. One of them is mold that appears in the pot.
According to Kobieta, it's quite easy to recognize this disease: it looks like a white fluffy coating on the surface of the soil. It is often confused with limescale, which can be formed due to watering with hard water. Sediment is also bad, but mold is destructive to plants and needs to be dealt with immediately. Moreover, these fungi, in particular their spores, can also harm people. The good news is that you can fight it with the tools at hand and without toxic chemicals.
Mold on the surface of the substrate most often appears during the cold season, when high humidity and lack of sunlight create favorable conditions for fungal growth. It's funny that a spice, which is also considered a "winter" spice, helps fight it. Cinnamon is a key ingredient in mulled wine and apple pies.
It is known that the antiseptic properties of cinnamon were used in ancient Egypt. In particular, it was added to the mixture used to embalm the bodies of the dead. And in the Middle Ages, it gained fame as an aphrodisiac and an effective remedy for sore throats.
Its antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral properties are due to the same things that provide the characteristic pleasant smell and taste of this spice. These are essential oils that contain cinnamaldehyde, a powerful natural fungicide.
How to get rid of it with cinnamon
An antifungal powder can be ordinary cinnamon powder, which can be bought at any supermarket. It is quite enough to overcome the problem.
First, collect all the white moldy growth from the surface of the substrate. Next, you can sprinkle fresh soil on the plant and apply fertilizer. And after that, sprinkle the soil with cinnamon. It is even better to mix it with the topsoil. But do not overdo it. Too much cinnamon can harm the plant. If there is really a lot of mold in the pot, it is better to transplant the flower into a fresh, non-infected substrate.
