How to clean an acrylic bathtub from dirt and rust: effective home methods

It's no secret that the bathtub itself needs periodic cleaning, just like any other plumbing fixture. Sometimes dirt appears on it, which is not so easy to deal with.

Since we sometimes use the bathtub to wash our shoes, car mats, or bathe our pets, we have to look for new ways to clean the acrylic product. Channel 24 talked about easy and effective ways.

In modern stores, consumers are usually offered acrylic bathtubs. This is not surprising as this material has many advantages. For example, it retains heat well, is not susceptible to corrosion and mold, and can usually be easily cleaned with water and a sponge.

However, if there are advantages, there are also disadvantages. For example, acrylic bathtubs are not as durable as products made of other materials. Because of this, they should be cleaned with care.

In general, it is recommended that you wash your bathtub with plain water regularly to prevent serious staining and limescale. Due to the delicacy of the material, you should not use special detergents more than twice a month.

But what if the bathtub is dirty and you don't want to damage it with aggressive chemicals?

Baking soda

If the dirt is not critical, ordinary baking soda will cope with it.

Citric acid

If you come across yellow stains or old limescale, you need something more serious than baking soda. In this case, dissolve 15 grams of citric acid in a glass of water, apply the solution to the bathtub surface and leave it for 20 minutes. After that, wash the bathtub with a plumbing detergent and rinse thoroughly with running water.

Rust

Rust is not an easy stain to remove, so it requires heavy artillery. The best option is to hire a professional cleaner.

In no case should you use descalers that contain acetone, formic acid, ammonia, phosphoric acid, and formaldehyde to clean your acrylic bathtub, as well as other acrylic surfaces.
