Steamed varenyky with strawberries and kefir
Varenyky with strawberries are the perfect option for a light summer breakfast or even lunch. For them to be tasty, not to fall apart and not stick together during cooking, you should make a successful dough and cook the dumplings on steam.
Food blogger Anastasia Zhakulina (anastasia_zhakulina) on her Instagram page shared a recipe for homemade steamed dumplings with strawberries, the dough for which is made with kefir.
Ingredients:
- kefir - 330 ml
- egg yolk - 1 pc.
- baking soda - 5 g
- pinch of salt
- flour - 500 g (+2 tbsp. for baking)
For the filling:
- fresh strawberries - 300 g
- sugar - 2 tbsp.
- cornstarch - 1,5 tsp.
Method of preparation:
1. Mix kefir, egg yolk, baking soda and salt for the dough. Stir with a fork.
2. Add flour and knead the dough. The dough will be soft and elastic. Leave it to rest for 20 minutes.
3. Meanwhile, prepare the filling. To do this, wash and cut strawberries, add sugar and starch. Mix everything.
4. Roll out the dough on a surface sprinkled with flour and cut out circles.
5. Form dumplings with strawberries.
6. Pour water into a saucepan, cover the top with gauze and tie the sides to keep it tightly on the surface. When the water boils, place the dumplings, cover with a lid or bowl and cook for 5 minutes.
7. Serve ready dumplings with butter and fresh strawberries. Bon appetit!
