Onions are a part of many dishes. But you can fully appreciate its taste only if you treat it properly.

Recently, the famous TV chef Jamie Oliver told us what to do with onions to rid them of their bitter and pungent taste and make them a real highlight of the dish. He shared his secrets in an interview with the Mirror.

According to Jamie, he always washes the onions he has already cut under cold water. The moisture that saturates the onion adds softness and sweetness to it and gets rid of the bitterness that is "built into" the root vegetable's system so that various animals won't taste it.

Oliver explains that you first chop the onion finely and then soak it in a bowl of water. If you suspect that the onions might be too sweet for a particular dish, you can add a little vinegar to the bowl to neutralize the sweetness.

By the way, this method has been used in Japan for many years. It is also great for those people who are hypersensitive to the compounds in onions, resulting in a large amount of tears being released when cutting the vegetable.
