Due to the fact that electricity is cut off for quite a long period of time all over Ukraine, food spoils quite quickly. This situation can even be dangerous for health, as it takes time to recognize stale food.

That's why today the FoodOboz editorial team is sharing a few life hacks that will help you keep your food fresh even without a refrigerator.

Butter

Butter will go bad pretty quickly without refrigeration. You can do the following with it:

- put the butter in an enamel or glass dish and cover with cold water. The water should be changed twice a day;

- cut the butter into pieces, wrap it in parchment paper, put it in a saucepan and pour saline (1 spoonful of salt per 1 liter of water). Put something heavy on top. The water should be changed daily;

- put butter in a container and cover with salt water - this will prevent it from turning yellow. Water should be changed daily.

Dairy products

Boil the milk with a pinch of baking soda, pour it into a jar, cover it with a clean towel or cloth, and put it in a bucket of water and, preferably, ice. Store it in a cool place and periodically change the water to cooler water.

Cheese will not last long without refrigeration - it should be wrapped in a wet cloth and put in a cold place. The shelf life of this cheese is 1 day.

Sausage

The best way to store sausage is to use salt. Take a towel, soak it in salt water, wrap the sausage, and put it in a cool place.

Meat and fish

Meat can be preserved by boiling it until tender, adding spices, salt, and plenty of fat. Then all this should be rolled up in sterile jars and thoroughly sterilized.

The fish should be cleaned and the head cut off because it spoils the fastest. Then moisten it in a salty solution, take any clean cloth or towel and wrap the fish. Put it in a cold place.

Vegetables and fruits

Cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, cabbage, herbs, and other fruits and vegetables can be stored without a refrigerator. To do this, you need to prepare a dark and cool place so that they are not exposed to bright sunlight. Carrots and beets are best stored in boxes with sand.

Eggs

Chicken eggs can be stored at room temperature for about 1 week. But there is a way to extend this period. To do this, they need to be washed in salt water (it cleanses dirt and kills bacteria), then rinsed under running water and wiped dry. Put them in a rice bag and tie it up.

Cottage cheese

Cheese, like other dairy products, cannot be stored for a long time without cold. To extend its shelf life, you will need a linen napkin. You need to soak it in salt water and wrap the cheese in it, wrap it in paper on top and put it in a cool place. This will keep the cheese for about 3 days. Before using it, you need to slice it and set it aside for an hour.
