Rice is one of the healthiest and most delicious foods. It can be used to make delicious, hearty, and unusual dishes, including meatballs, cabbage rolls, pilaf, soup, and milk porridge. But it's worth remembering that experts do not recommend eating rice the day after cooking, claiming that it will not only be unhealthy, but can also harm the body.

The FoodOboz editorial team has selected a life hack shared by food blogger emilymariko on TikTok that will help you heat up rice without turning it into porridge.

It's simple, you just need to put the rice in a plate, put an ice cube on it, and cover it with parchment. Then put it in the microwave, heat it up, remove the parchment, remove the remaining ice cube, stir the rice, and you're ready to eat.

Yevhen Klopotenko explains how to cook each type of rice on his YouTube channel

To begin with, it is worth noting that rice is divided into three main groups depending on its size:

  • round-grained
  • medium-grained
  • long-grained

Each of these types, in addition to taste differences, contains a different amount of starch. Round-grain rice has the most starch, which is why it often turns out to be stickier after boiling. Medium-grained rice has less starch, and long-grained rice has the least.

How to cook rice

Klopotenko says that you can cook perfect rice even in a simple saucepan or pot, not just in a slow cooker or double boiler.

Proportions are important for rice

"To make it perfect, use 1 part rice and 2 parts water. After the water boils, let the rice boil for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat, cover the saucepan and let it stand for about 15 minutes," Klopotenko recommends.

The chef noted that this method is suitable for any type of rice, only the time will differ.

"For round-grain rice, the time should be reduced by 5 minutes, for unpolished rice, it should be increased by 15 minutes. Usually, the instructions for cooking time are also on the package," Klopotenko summarized.
