How to make French onion soup at home: we share the best recipe
French onion soup is an incredibly tasty and satisfying dish that can be ordered in almost every restaurant, but it can also be prepared at home with simple ingredients.
Cook Valentyna Sayenko shared a recipe for a delicious, hearty onion soup with cheese and baguette on Instagram.
Ingredients:
- Onions - 1 kg
- Butter - 50 g
- Broth - 1.5 liters
- Dry white wine or sherry - 50 g
- Thyme - 3 sprigs
- Baguette
- Hard cheese - 200 g
- Salt and pepper
Method of preparation:
1. Peel and chop the onion. Melt the butter in a frying pan and fry the onion over medium heat, stirring occasionally. It may take 30-40 minutes.
2. Next, pour in the alcohol, let it evaporate for 3-5 minutes and add the broth, then add the thyme and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally.
3. At this stage, the soup should be well darkened. Boil the broth - it will take 20-30 minutes. The mass should thicken, as soon as this happens, add another 300 grams of broth and boil again. As soon as the mass thickens, add the rest of the broth, boil it down by about half, and season with salt and pepper.
4. It is advisable to bake the soup in portions, putting it in layers in bowls: soup, cheese, croutons, cheese.
