How a 10-year-old Ukrainian girl Yasna became the face of world famous brands

Young Ukrainian models win the hearts of not only domestic brands but also foreign luxury manufacturers. That's how 10-year-old Yasna became the face of Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger, and thousands, if not millions, of Americans have watched her images.

The girl was born in Miami, where she quickly mastered the profession of modeling, but now lives in Ukraine. Her mother, photographer Alina Rost, told OBOZ.UA exclusively that she did not expect her daughter's charisma to catch the attention of the world's top brands at once. Little Yasna's career began to develop rapidly.

Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Carter's, Next, and Kenneth Cole are among the brands she has worked with. But her modeling career started with Ralph Lauren and a few mishaps of her mother.

"The first shoot in Yasna's life was for Ralph Lauren, she was chosen based on the portfolio photos I took. When I received a message from the agency that she had been chosen and that they were going to try on clothes tomorrow, I didn't take it seriously. I thought there must be some kind of letter or call, so I ignored it. In the evening, I got a call from the agent asking why we didn't come. I had to come up with a reason, and the next day we were at the fitting. That is, we didn't even go through any auditions. In fact, it was a very powerful start, because after this shooting we started receiving offers from top companies," Alina Rost admitted.

As Yasna's mother told us, she also had various twists and turns with shooting for other brands. Sometimes she couldn't believe her daughter's success.

"I had an interesting experience shooting for Calvin Klein. At first, I had to fly to New York for a casting call, and at my own expense. There I realized that we were going to miss out because there were hundreds of children, one more beautiful than the other. But our agent was sure that they would choose Yasna! Because they look not only at beauty, but also at the portfolio, behavior on camera, and many other nuances that we don't even know about. We spent two days wandering around New York waiting for the results - and she was indeed chosen! I still have the message from the Calvin Klein team about this incredible news," the photographer continued.

With the outbreak of the full-scale war in Russia, Kenneth Cole supported Ukrainians, and when they learned that one of the models of their advertising campaign was young Yasna, they could not stand aside and made a gift to the family: exclusive patriotic shoes.

"When the full-scale invasion began, I saw that everywhere on the signs and windows of the famous American brand Kenneth Cole it was written "We stand with Ukraine". I decided to send them a letter thanking them for their support and informing them that one of their models, a girl named Yasna, is Ukrainian. The company responded immediately and offered to give us a gift – shoes for me and my daughters. A few days later we received sneakers with blue and yellow laces! It was very nice," said Alina Rost.

In particular, she added that the shoots often featured world-famous photographers who collaborated with Ukrainian stylist and fashion director of Vogue Ukraine Yulia Pelipas, and shot children for the covers of Vogue kids.

Interestingly, Alina Rost and her husband chose an unusual name for their youngest daughter before their first child was born. The Serbian director Emir Kusturica was their inspiration.

"My husband and I chose the name Yasna a long time ago, even before our first daughter was born. We were very fond of the films of the Serbian director Emir Kusturica, who, unfortunately, turned out to be a Putin propagandist. One of his films featured a girl named Jasna. My husband and I were very fond of this unusual name, and we firmly decided that if we had a daughter, we would name her that way. After some time, I gave birth to a girl, but somehow we felt that the name Yasna did not suit her, so we named her Miriam. And when another girl was born a year and a half later, the name Yasna was already waiting for her, and there was no doubt about it," the photographer recalled.

It is worth noting that with the outbreak of Russia's full-scale war, Alina Rost and her daughters returned to their homeland in a village in Bukovyna after 13 years in the United States. The photographer spoke about the difficulties of living in Ukraine and working with leading stars in an interview with OBOZ.UA.
