"War is hell! Independence is always a battle!" commented Jamie Lee Curtis.

The man could not survive, although doctors fought for his life incessantly. He died due to severe injuries shortly before Ukraine's Independence Day.

"He was brought to the stabilization center of the Ulf premedical service of the Da Vinci Wolves separate battalion in a serious condition. Mine-blast wound: multiple injuries to the leg and penetrating shrapnel to the right side of the head. The doctors did their best. He was injected with adrenaline and resuscitated. The doctors were pumping his heart with indirect heart massage, taking turns, for about forty minutes. In the corridor under the operating room, those not involved in resuscitation stood silently waiting. We were waiting for him to survive. He died on the Flag Day. He died on the eve of Independence Day. He died late at night, on August 23, 2024," said photographer Andriy Dubchak.

"There were more wounded afterwards. Three young guys with minor contusions. They joked a lot and were eager to 'give back'. And in the morning, three more with light leg injuries from a drone drop. The dawn of the 33rd day of Ukraine's Independence began for the headquarters with the loud work of Ukrainian artillery on the positions of Russian troops advancing on Pokrovsk," Dubchak wrote.
