Ukraine has once again confirmed its Eurovision record, but there is a nuance with Luxembourg. What is known

Ukraine has managed to maintain its record at the Eurovision Song Contest as the country that has reached the final every time since its participation. As of 2024, Ukrainians will perform side by side with finalists from other countries 19 times.

So far, only Luxembourg can attempt to break this record, as it also made it to the top ten winners of the semifinals for the first time. However, there is a nuance that makes it difficult to call the representatives of this country record holders. OBOZ.UA will tell you more about it.

Ukraine

Ukrainians first took part in the contest in 2003, when pop singer Alexander Ponomarev went to Riga. Back then, the contest was still held without semifinals, so all the artists sang at only one show, where the winner was immediately announced.

Already in 2004, the rules changed, and the final performance had to be fought for in the semifinals. With the exception of 2005, 2017, and 2023, when Ukrainians hosted the competition and automatically got into the grand final, the place had to be won through the voting of the audience and the jury.

If the Ukrainians hadn't refused to participate in 2019 because of the traitor Maruv, and if the show hadn't been canceled in 2020 because of Covid-19, Ukraine could have prepared for the final 21 times.

Luxembourg

The participants from Luxembourg can hardly be called record holders, as 2024 was the first time they took part in the competition under the new format rules. Luxembourg participated in the Eurovision Song Contest from 1956 to 1993 with rare exceptions, after which it forgot about the show for 30 years.

Formally, the country will be considered the second participant, which has always made it to the final by performing in the semifinals, only after May 11, when it will finally take part in the final show of the competition.
