Stars who ended their film careers due to dementia.

Dementia is a set of symptoms that arise as a result of brain damage caused by certain diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's disease). It includes impaired short-term memory, sudden mood swings, problems with spatial orientation, difficulty adapting to change, etc. And no one is immune from it.

Who are the famous people affected by dementia? Find out in the OBOZREVATEL article.

Rita Hayworth

American actress and dancer Rita Hayworth has appeared in 61 films during her career. Until 1972. She had to quit her favourite job due to Alzheimer's disease. In 1987, Rita died at the age of 68. After that, the media spread information about the cause of death, describing in detail how the disease manifested itself. At that time, few people knew about this type of brain damage.

Bruce Willis

In the spring of 2022, American film actor Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia. This is a speech disorder that occurs as a result of localised cortical damage. The man had to end his film career. Now he is 68, and he just has to come to terms with the diagnosis. There is no cure for the disease, and it is progressing rapidly.

Robin Williams

The talented American actor and comedian Robin Williams was also one of the victims of dementia in Levi's body. In the last years of his life (he passed away at 63), he had problems with memory, thinking and coordination. It also became more difficult for him to perform everyday tasks. The actor hanged himself at his home in California on 11 August 2014 because he could not bear the devastating effects of the disease.

Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan, an American politician and the 40th President of the United States, worked as a sports commentator before his political career. In his early years, he became famous as an actor and TV presenter. During his second term in office, Reagan began to show the first symptoms of Alzheimer's disease: during a live presidential debate (1984), he suddenly stopped talking, forgetting what he wanted to say.

In 1994, Ronald officially announced his diagnosis. Then his memory gradually deteriorated, as well as his ability to think and speak. Eventually, he stopped recognising people around him, including his wife Nancy. The former US president died when he was 93.
