The Golden Globes 2024 host humiliated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in front of an audience of thousands of people
The host of the Golden Globes 2024 ceremony, stand-up comedian Joe Coy, cruelly ridiculed Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. In his opening speech, he mentioned the couple in a rather sarcastic context, standing in front of the most popular Hollywood stars.
According to Metro, the couple did not attend the ceremony, but this did not stop the stand-up. In particular, Joe Coy joked about the multimillion-dollar deal between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Netflix.
The comedian began his speech with "nice" words for Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper, then moving on to Harry and Meghan. Joe Coy mentioned the Golden Globe-nominated series The Heirs, which tells the story of a fictional family fighting for an inheritance, and The Crown, based on real events.
"The Heirs has nine nominations. It's just a great series about a rich, white, dysfunctional family that is scheming - oh, wait, it's The Crown," he joked.
Coy did not stop there. "How wonderful Imelda Staunton was in The Crown... Her image of the queen was so beautiful. Prince Harry called her and asked her for money," the host added.
He also joked about the Netflix documentary about the couple: "Prince Harry and Meghan will still be getting millions of dollars for doing absolutely nothing - and that's just from Netflix!"
At this point, the camera panned to the company's CEO, Ted Sarandos, who was puzzled by the joke, but still smiled. According to the Daily Mail, Netflix paid $100 million for a documentary about the Sussexes.
The Harry and Meghan series faced a wave of criticism when it was released in December 2022. One of the reasons was the portrayal of the UK as a racist country. In a segment from the show, Harry says that the royal family has an "unconscious bias" and is "part of the problem" when it comes to racism in Britain.
Due to the lack of sensationalism, Harry and Meghan was called boring, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were named the "biggest losers of 2023." Read all the details in our article.
