The Spanish Crown Princess Leonor completed a year of study at the Army Ground Forces training school and received her first military rank, second lieutenant. The whole family - father, mother, and sister - attended the graduation ceremony to support the 18-year-old woman.

During the ceremony in the palace, King Philip VI also presented his daughter with an award in the shape of a cross with a white emblem, Lavanguardia writes. Now the Princess of Asturias will have a month of vacation.

In August, she will move to the Naval Academy in Marin, where she will continue her training on a frigate. In total, Leonor is to spend three years in training: in the army, navy, and air force, just as her father did before he ascended the throne.

Monarchs need this experience to become supreme commanders of the country's armed forces.

The princess's graduation began with a national anthem and a cannon salute. The event was attended not only by members of the royal family but also by Defense Minister Margarita Robles and Chief of Defense Staff Teodoro Esteban Lopez Calderón.

Saying goodbye to the princess, the military school assured that they would "miss her" as Leonor "left a mark" among her classmates, students of other courses, officers, and teachers.

Leonor is the eldest of two daughters of King Philip VI and his wife Queen Letizia. In 2018, at the age of 12, she became the main heir to the Spanish throne.
