Refused treatment: what 99-year-old former US President Jimmy Carter looks like and who is taking care of him now

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter spent a year and a half in the hospital due to brain and liver cancer metastases, but after the death of his wife Rosalyn Carter in November 2023, he moved home to Georgia. Nowadays, the 99-year-old politician is often visited by his family, but his grandson Jason Carter claims that his grandfather is slowly dying.

During his treatment since February last year, Jimmy Carter has hardly ever been in public and, in his old age, almost stopped attending various events. The funeral of his wife was the only time Carter appeared in public since his "move" to the hospital, and his frail appearance alarmed people in the church and those who watched the ceremony on TV, the Daily Mail reports.

"My grandfather is doing well. He's been in the hospital, as you know, for almost a year and a half, and he's really, I think, coming to the end," said Jason Carter, the politician's grandson.

Family members told us that the former president's motivation to live as long as possible was his desire to be with his wife even when he was hospitalized, "so that Rosalyn would never be alone."

"He was really proud and happy that he made it to the end with my grandmother, and that was a real treasure for him," Jason Carter continued.

Nowadays, the man lives in his own ranch house in Plains, where almost all of the former president's life passed. Carter was so eager to make it special that he built it with his own hands about 60 years ago.

In August 2015, the politician underwent liver surgery to remove a small cancerous tumor. The following year, he refused further treatment, as the treatment had worked and eliminated any signs of cancer. Later it turned out that the disease had metastasized, when cancer cells spread to other organs.
