Plus-size model became Miss Alabama: what Sarah Milliken looks like in real life and why the 23-year-old woman is so popular. Photo
This year, a 23-year-old plus-size model, Sarah Milliken, won the Miss Alabama beauty pageant. After the results were officially announced on Thanksgiving Day, she faced a lot of hate.
Over the past eight years, the woman has participated in the competition twice until she was unsuccessful, Times Now reports. However, after sharing the good news on her Instagram, critics began to actively accuse Sarah Milliken of being "unhealthy".
The main reason for the hate was the model's weight. Disgruntled commenters called the 23-year-old's participation in the beauty pageant a shame for the entire state: "Is this really considered attractive in Alabama?"
According to one user, the victory of a plus-size model changes its original essence, turning it into a "mental health pageant."
"An overweight contestant was crowned Miss Alabama and a biological male contestant was crowned Miss Maryland USA. Such decisions send the wrong messages to children and contribute to the development of a culture of unhealthy lifestyles," the commentary says.
Despite the large amount of negativity Sarah Milliken receives, she is proud of the fact that she was able to achieve a high result. She admits that her initial goal was to get into the top 10 of the competition, which would mean that she had become better than she was a year ago, The Irish Sun writes.
"Now I want to break the glass ceilings to create a path for other women to realize their dreams – no matter what their shape or size," the model said.
Addressing malicious commenters, the American noted that everyone should watch what they write: "Even something you just type on a screen can make a lasting impression on a person. Even though I'm not in that state, you can make other people do bad things to you."
In support of the woman, people started posting messages calling Sarah Milliken "a young lady with a heart of gold" who has a great appearance and enough confidence to carry the title of Miss Alabama.
