It is known that the film director Sergei Loznitsa, who has Ukrainian citizenship but fervently defends Russian culture, was also invited to join the critics. In 2022, he was expelled from the Ukrainian Film Academy because of his ambiguous position on Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. However, at this year's Cannes Film Festival, he presented his work Invasion with a brooch in the form of a Ukrainian flag.
