Make your bathroom shine with white: how to clean yellow stains and rust

Choose the product according to the type of material your bathtub is made of.

One of the unpleasant consequences of hard water coming out of our taps is lime and rust stains on the bathtub or shower tray. Cosmetic products such as shower gels, soaps or shampoo also leave traces. On the surface of white sanitary ware, they are catastrophically conspicuous. Therefore, the question of how to whiten the bathroom worries many housewives.

OBOZREVATEL has collected some effective life hacks on how to restore whiteness and shine. It is important to remember that they are not universal. Remember what material your bathtub is made of and choose the right cleaning method for it.

How to clean the remaining foam

Drops of soap suds can accumulate in the corners and on the side surfaces of the bathtub and turn into an unsightly yellow coating over time. They can become a breeding ground for bacteria and mould and, in addition to being an aesthetic problem, can also create a hygiene problem. Baking soda will help to remove such deposits.

Dissolve the baking soda with water into a paste and apply it to the moistened surface of the bathtub. Leave the product on for half an hour, rub the contaminated area well and rinse it off. Repeat the cleaning procedure if necessary.

How to deal with limescale

Limescale, which is caused by lime in the water, is removed by acidic products. Common ingredients such as vinegar and citric acid can help to solve the problem.

Baking soda and vinegar recipe

To prepare the product, take

  • baking soda - 0.5 cups;
  • water - 0.5 cups;
  • white vinegar - 0.25 cups.

Mix all the ingredients, apply the finished product to the surface of the bathtub and leave for an hour. Then wipe thoroughly with a sponge and rinse with water.

Citric acid and baking soda recipe for acrylic bathtubs

The previous method can damage the surface of an acrylic bathtub. For this type of bathtub, it is better to prepare a citric acid-based product.

Prepare a paste from baking soda and water. Dilute citric acid with water in a 1:1 ratio. Apply the baking soda paste to the surface of the bathtub and leave it for an hour. Then spray the citric acid solution on it and let them interact. After that, scrub the bathtub with a sponge and rinse with water.

How to whiten the bathroom

Bleaching agents will help to restore the whiteness of the bathroom. However, they can be quite aggressive, so take into account the material of your bathtub.

Recipe with dry bleach

Dilute dry chlorine-based bleach with water in a 1:1 ratio. Spray the bathtub with this liquid, scrub it to remove any streaks, and leave it to work. When the product dries, rinse off the residue thoroughly with water.

Before using this cleaning method, try it somewhere inconspicuous. Chlorine can be too aggressive for enamel and destroy acrylic. Therefore, it is better to make sure that the plumbing can withstand it in advance.

Recipe based on hydrogen peroxide

A milder cleaner can be made by mixing hydrogen peroxide with baking soda to a paste. This paste should be applied to the bathtub, left on for 30 minutes and rinsed off.

Vinegar-based recipe

Fill a bathtub with warm water and dilute 0.5 litres of vinegar in it. Leave the product on for four hours. After that, drain the water, wipe off all stains with a sponge and rinse the surface.

Cleaning stains with toothpaste

Regular toothpaste can help remove yellow stains on the bathroom. Apply it to the stains, let it work for 10-15 minutes, then rub the stain with a brush and rinse.

Recipe based on hydrogen peroxide and ammonia against rust

To make a rust remover, take:

  • ammonia - 100 ml;
  • hydrogen peroxide - 50 ml.

Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle, spray the resulting product on the rust stains, leave for 10-15 minutes, rub the stains and rinse the surface thoroughly.
