John Meyer's hit Daughters, winner of seven Grammy Awards, has been named the worst song of all time. Video.
The track by the famous American singer and producer John Mayer "Daughters" was called one of the worst songs in the history of the music industry. According to the performer Annie Clark, better known under the pseudonym St. Vincent, the 2003 hit is too sexist.
The 41-year-old artist said that what annoys her the most is the attempts of the winner of seven Grammy Awards to hide misogyny under an innocent love serenade, Metro writes. However, despite the criticism from his colleagues on stage, thanks to "Daughters" the musician won the Song of the Year 2005 award.
Through the lyrics of the album's popular single "Heavier Things", John Mayer urges parents to treat their children better: "Fathers, be good to your daughters, daughters will love you like you do. Girls become lovers who turn into mothers, so mothers, be kind to your daughters as well."
St. Vincent is sincerely unhappy with the meaning that the artist put into the track and considers it one of his worst hits.
"It's just horribly sexist, even though it's supposed to be a love song, but it's actually retrograde and really sexist. And I hate it... It's so deeply misogynistic that it would be nice if people realized that, but it's all about making it look as sweet as possible," the singer said.
In response to a large number of negative comments, John Meyer said that he wrote the track for a girl who could not really trust men because she had a bad relationship with her father.
