On April 18, in Kyiv, Ukrainians said goodbye to the famous publicist, writer and public figure Dmytro Kapranov, who died on April 16 at the age of 56. The funeral service was held at St. Michael's Golden-Domed Cathedral, after which the body was taken to Baikove Cemetery to loud applause and tears of the audience.

OBOZ.UA correspondents were at the ceremony and told us how it went. The funeral lasted about three hours.

13:00. Amid applause and crying, the coffin was taken out of the cathedral. According to our correspondent, Vitaliy Kapranov and his late brother went to the large hall of the crematorium at the Baikove cemetery. The funeral ceremony is over.

12:30. Kyiv residents continue to approach the coffin with flowers in their hands. Some of them cannot hold back tears. Oleh Skrypka and Kolya Serha also paid tribute to the writer.

12:15. Artist Yuriy Zhuravel, showman Anton Lirnyk, writer Andriy Kokotoha, and academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine Mykhailo Ilyenko were spotted near the church.

12:00. Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko came to the funeral. The former head of the country admitted that the historian supported him both before and after the presidency.

11:40. Dmytro Kapranov's friends, writer Vasyl Shklyar and actor Yevhen Nyshchuk, spoke to journalists. Also, caricaturist and musician Yuriy Zhuravel and historian, soldier of the Third Separate Assault Brigade Oleksandr Alferov, Armed Forces officer, former MP Andriy Ilyenko, and actor Akhtem Seitablaev came to say goodbye.

11:20. The funeral service for the deceased began. The family's closest friends and journalists gathered around the coffin with candles.

11:00. The wife of Dmytro Kapranov was led into the hall by the hands. Storyteller Sashko Lirnyk also came to say goodbye to his friend.

10:45. Kyiv is preparing to say goodbye to the writer. Despite the announcement of a ballistic threat and air raid alert, the memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Cathedral, our correspondent reported.

10:30. A funeral service car with a photo of Dmytro Kapranov arrived at the cathedral.

We would like to remind you that his brother Vitaliy did not officially announce the cause of his death. However, our editorial office learned that Dmytro Kapranov had heart problems, and his death came as a surprise to his family and friends. Doctors assured him that "everything was fine."
