"Heroin chic" of the 90s. Dasha Astafieva showed a photo for the first time where she was on the way to anorexia and shocked the presenter

Dasha Astafieva showed a teenage photo where she was incredibly thin

Ukrainian model and singer Dasha Astafieva shocked with her teenage photo and a story about her childhood health problems, which led to her being constantly bullied. Against the background of her peers, the girl looked like a hostage of the then-popular "heroin chic" due to her future anorexia, and her unfashionable clothes revealed the difficult financial situation of her parents.

In an interview with Emma Antoniuk on No One Will Watch This, Astafieva admitted that while other girls were "drooling" over skinny models, she admired Bettie Page and dreamed of being healthy. To prove it, the singer found one of her photos from the 90s, which shocked the host.

"I suffered a lot from being thin as a child. When my friends were women, I was so small and so ugly next to them. However, whenever I showed them, everyone said, 'Are you crazy? I'm with my classmates. Look at my legs. With the same cool girls (in the photo - Ed.) who held the whole school together."

Astafieva also commented on her appearance in that photo: she was dressed incomprehensibly against the background of other girls and does not even remember where some of the things in her wardrobe came from.

"Well, just look. The person [a classmate] is wearing a 'Grass' sweatshirt. It was an incredible sign of coolness, gangsterism, and insane recognition. And I'm wearing a knitted sweater and I don't even know where I got this skirt. But at labor, when we were sewing skirts, I made this skirt out of some jeans. Everyone was wearing platforms, you see, and I was wearing some of my mom's (shoes - Ed.)," she explained.

When Emma Antoniuk saw this photo, her face immediately changed and she was incredibly shocked. "Oh, my God! I believe you now! Because when you tell me all this, it's not that I didn't trust you, but it sounds like a good story," the host said.

Ever since she was a child, the model was often sick, which led to her being given offensive nicknames and avoiding contact.

"I dreamed of stopping being sick. I was bald until I was 8 years old. I was called 'Bald head give me a pie'. I dreamed that it would end. Later, when I got older, I dreamed of being friends with girls, with such naughty girls, that I would be accepted into this company. And then I realized that I am not beautiful, I am not sexy, I suffer from being sick and being teased," Astafieva recalled.

At that time, "heroin chic" was popular in society, when girls went on diets and refused to eat in order to be very thin. But the future model was not interested in this – she was crazy about the curvaceous forms of Betty Page.

"I never liked girls like that. I remember the first photos that made such a strong impression on me – a photo of Betty Page, who was an absolute beauty to me at the time, but she didn't realize it. She was constantly laughing and fooling around on the set and behaving in such an extraordinary way. I am very grateful to her for her sense of beauty, style, and desire to make people laugh who take you very seriously and faint when they see you," she admitted.
