Family of 84-year-old veteran sues Katy Perry over $15 million home: singer accused of 'encroaching' on home

The famous American singer Katy Perry will have to face the family of 84-year-old veteran Carl Westcott, who is in serious condition due to Huntington's disease, in court. The family of the former member of the U.S. Army Airborne Brigade accuses the star of unjustified "encroachment" on his $15 million mansion in Montecito.

According to the agreement concluded by the composer with the owner of the house, the man agreed to sell the eight-room estate in 2020, the Daily Mail writes. However, a few days after signing, Carl Westcott wanted to cancel the contract because he made a mistake under the influence of strong painkillers he took after surgery. Nevertheless, Katy Perry was recognized as the rightful owner by a court order.

The American singer now wants the veteran's family to reimburse her for the $6 million in damages she spent on repairs and rent. To make the claim, the celebrity will have to meet face-to-face with Westcott's relatives during the upcoming trial.

"It's obvious that she's trying to squeeze every last dollar out of Carl's family without the slightest compassion at the expense of the elderly man's inheritance," said a friend of the plaintiffs, "The fact is that the Westcott family wants her to face them because they think they deserve it. She took the father's home and now she wants to 'take the shirt off his back'. The least she can do is look them all in the eye while she does it."

The multi-day trial was originally scheduled to take place in July, but lawyers for Carl Westcott's family secured a postponement. This happened after Katy Perry hired 25 workers to scrutinize the house for defects. After a careful audit, experts say that the 2-hectare plot needs water pipes to be repaired, a building damaged by a falling oak tree, and fixing problems with the estate's maintenance.
