Catherine Deneuve is 81: what kind of embarrassment she got into because of Ukraine and why the French actress is called a "fatal beauty"

Catherine Deneuve, the French star of the films The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Girls of Rochefort, Daytime Beauty and many others, celebrates her birthday today, October 22. This year, the "femme fatale" and sex symbol turned 81. Her filmography was so rich, and her contribution to the personal brand of Ukraine in the world was so great.

The actress came to our homeland before the full-scale invasion, and after the start of Russia's terrorist war, she supported Ukrainians abroad. One of the embarrassments with her pro-Ukrainian stance made the rounds online a few months ago, but it does not call into question her solidarity. OBOZ.UA decided to recall what exactly happened to Catherine Deneuve and why she was called a "fatal beauty" in her youth.

At the end of February 2024, the actress recorded a warm address to the Ukrainian people, and a few days later, on February 28, she appeared at Paris Fashion Week with a bicolor brooch. It was this piece of jewelry that caused the actress to be embarrassed. The flag of Ukraine was upside down (yellow and blue, not blue and yellow), which is why the network drew attention to it.

However, two days later, the French film legend corrected the embarrassment. On March 1, she attended another Loewe fall/winter 2024-2025 womenswear show with the flag hanging correctly. This does not call into question her solidarity with Ukrainians, which the movie star has clearly and unambiguously expressed in the public sphere.

Fashion shows and film festivals have become a platform for her to show her support for Ukraine. Last year, the celebrity appeared at the Cannes Film Festival and read a poem by Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka called "Hope." The star translated the poem into French. The colleagues in the audience listened to Catherine Deneuve with bated breath, and after the performance was over, they kept applauding for a long time.

The actress gained worldwide recognition not only for her love of cinema but also for her appearance. As a child, Catherine Deneuve was a rather quiet and modest girl, but after she started filming, she was nicknamed a global sex symbol and a "femme fatale."
