Batman star George Clooney reveals what bad habit can kill him: he lost 8 relatives because of it

Hollywood actor George Clooney, known for his role in Batman and many other cult films, has spoken about his difficult struggle with smoking. Even though he lost eight members of his family to lung cancer, the star still returned to this habit to prepare for his new role.

In an interview with the New York Times, he admitted that he is preparing for the play "Good Night, and Good Luck," a theatrical adaptation of his 2005 film. To play the role of journalist Edward R. Murrow, who was a heavy smoker, the actor is forced to smoke. Clooney admitted that he tries to hide this bad habit from his children and goes outside to take a few puffs.

"Eight uncles and aunts have died of lung cancer – it's a big deal," the actor said.

The celebrity clarified that he intends to switch to herbal cigarettes when he officially starts performing on stage next month.

He noted that his family has a tragic history connected with smoking: eight of his uncles and aunts, including the famous singer and actress Rosemary Clooney, died of lung cancer. However, his father, who never smoked, is now healthy and 91 years old.

"My dad is the only one who didn't smoke, and he's 91," George Clooney added.

In the movie "Good Night, and Good Luck," he has already faced criticism for scenes with smoking but defended their historical accuracy.

"I replied: "Well, they all died of lung cancer – you can't help but do what is the factual truth," the actor said.
