Almost three months later, the official cause of death of One Direction's Liam Payne, who fell out of a hotel room window, has been announced

Almost three months after the death of singer Liam Payne, a former member of the famous boy band One Direction, prosecutors announced the official cause of death of the artist on October 16, 2024 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to the investigation, the cause was polytrauma sustained as a result of a fall from the third floor balcony of the hotel.

Dr. Roberto Victor Cohen, who conducted the postmortem examination, confirmed that the death was due to multiple injuries and bleeding. The BBC reports that according to the results of a toxicological examination, alcohol, cocaine and antidepressants were found in the singer's body, which probably affected his condition before the fall.

The Argentine prosecutor's office does not rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act, and that Payne may have been in a state of semi- or full unconsciousness.

Five people in Argentina have been charged in Payne's death: hotel manager Hilda Martin, administrator Esteban Grassi, and the singer's friend Roger Nores are suspected of involuntary manslaughter, and two people - hotel employee Ezequiel Pereira and waiter Brian Pais - of drug trafficking.

Interestingly, it was Roger Nores who testified to the media and convinced them that Liam Payne was in a great mood and balanced an hour before the tragedy. However, earlier the hotel staff reported that the singer had a conflict with the administration, because during a call to them, the performer demanded to know where to buy cocaine and alcohol. At the same time, Roger Nores denied these statements.

He also claimed that he did not abandon his friend in his last hours: "I went to the hotel three times to check on him. He looked drunk that morning, but nothing out of the ordinary."

Liam Payne's fame began in the 2010s with the band One Direction, which rose to fame after the X Factor 7 show. The band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2015, and Payne launched a solo career.
