Alec Baldwin talks about mental problems for the first time after the unintentional murder of Halyna Hutchins

For the first time, American actor Alec Baldwin has spoken about the serious mental health problems he had after the unintentional murder of Ukrainian cameraman Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie "Rust." For a long time after the fatal incident, the celebrity had a terrible feeling, and doctors diagnosed him with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The 66-year-old star also admitted that in the darkest times, he felt much happier during sleep, Page Six writes. According to the actor, his family helped him cope with the terrible consequences of the tragedy.

"Everyone close to Alec has seen his mental state deteriorate. He was diagnosed with PTSD. In the most difficult moments, he would say: "If the accident was supposed to happen today, why am I still here? Why couldn't it have been me?" His wife Hilaria Thomas told about the celebrity's mental state.

After the unintentional murder of Halyna Hutchins, Baldwin did not know how to describe his state of mind for a long time. The actor recalled a situation when a friend asked him how he was doing, and the only thing the star could say was: "I'm happier when I'm sleeping than when I'm awake."

However, the celebrity's three daughters, whom he shares with Hilaria Thomas, helped him return to a more or less normal mental state: Carmen, Lucia, and Illaria, and four sons: Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, and Eduardo.

"Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, I don't know where I would be if it weren't for you (my wife – Ed.) and these children. I would never have made it. Sometimes I say: "Why do we have seven children?" And I realized that it was to help me and you get through all this," the actor said.

It is worth noting that from his first marriage to Kim Basinger, the celebrity has a daughter, Ireland.

As a reminder, Halyna Hutchins was shot dead on October 21, 2021, during the making of the movie "Rust." Alec Baldwin was supposed to point the revolver at the camera and shoot, but the weapon turned out to be loaded, and the bullet hit the cameraman. The Ukrainian woman received a through-and-through wound to the chest and died. Then the trial of the actor began.

In April 2023, the star was acquitted of manslaughter charges against Hutchins. However, it was reported at the time that they could be brought back at any time if the necessary evidence was found. The investigation was nevertheless resumed on the grounds of reckless use of a firearm and disregard for the safety of others.

On March 6, a New Mexico jury found gunman Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty of the involuntary manslaughter of Halyna Hutchins. She was responsible for Baldwin's gun and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

For a long time, the actor was on trial, but in the summer of 2024, all charges in the case of the cameraman's murder were finally dropped. The judges made this decision because prosecutors did not hand over important evidence, namely a box of ammunition, as required by law.
