Ukraine and Slovakia to develop a 155-mm SPA based on the "Eva" howitzer
Ukrainian and Slovak armament factories have agreed to build a new 155 mm self-propelled artillery unit. It will be based on the "Eva" howitzer.
The main purpose of the cooperation is to adapt the Slovak "Eva" to Ukrainian requirements and integrate technical solutions from Ukrainian partners. This is reported by the publication Dennik (to see the photos, scroll to the end of the page).
The experience of combat use of the 155mm "Zuzana" artillery prompted the Ukrainian military-industrial complex to establish closer cooperation with their manufacturer, Slovak company Konštrukta Defense in Dubnica nad Váhom. They agreed to develop a common howitzer, which will be based on Slovak weapons.
The two companies have already signed a memorandum on cooperation. This was also confirmed by Vitaly Zahudaiev, director of the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant. The company has also agreed on other types of joint activities.
The cooperation began to develop because the Ukrainians are satisfied with the Slovakian Zuzana 2 howitzers, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces ordered in the summer of 2022. The last of them arrived in Ukraine in January 2023. In this cooperation, the idea was born to build a completely new howitzer, in which each side would invest the maximum of its capabilities and technical solutions.
At the same time, the publication notes that so far these are only plans that may not materialize. One of the risks is the elections in Slovakia, which will be held in September this year. They may be won by political parties that promise to stop military support to Ukraine. Even commercial cooperation in the defense sector with Ukraine may be unacceptable for them.
As a reminder, Spain will provide Ukraine with an aid package worth 55 million euros to finance enterprises, as well as to provide Ukrainian schools with environmentally friendly energy systems. In addition, Madrid will transfer four more Leopard tanks, armored personnel carriers and a portable field hospital with surgical equipment to the Ukrainian army.
Earlier it was reported that the decision on the transfer of long-range ATACMS missiles to the Ukrainian army would be made personally by US President Joe Biden. The United States is constantly discussing the possible provision of this weapon to Ukraine, but there is no final decision yet.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, the White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said that the United States will continue to provide military support to Ukraine. We are talking about assistance with weapons, as well as training and advice.
