The Pentagon confirms that the Russian Oreshnik missile was created on the basis of the Rubezh ICBM

Pentagon confirms that Russia warned the US about launching new ballistic missiles

The Oreshnik ballistic missile, which Russia launched on November 21 on the Dnipro River, is not an intercontinental missile. However, it is indeed based on the Rubizh ICBM.

This was stated by Deputy Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh during a press briefing, CNN quoted her as saying.

The defense official confirmed that Russia had informed the United States about the strike on Ukraine just before the missile launch.

"The United States was notified shortly before the launch through the Nuclear Threat Reduction System," Sabrina Singh said.

She noted that the National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center operates "a 24/7 bilateral NNRRC line with Russia that has been in place for 35 years and is currently being used to transmit launch notifications."

Singh characterized the Oreshnik as "an experimental model of an intermediate-range ballistic missile" and said it was "based on the model of the Russian intercontinental ballistic missile RS-26 Rubizhne.

Thus, according to the Pentagon spokesperson, Russia has used a new type of lethal weapon in the war against Ukraine, which is "certainly a cause for concern."

Singh also recalled that before that, the Russians had escalated the conflict by involving the North Korean armed forces on the battlefield against Ukrainians.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

On the morning of November 21, the Russian terrorist army struck Ukraine with an intercontinental ballistic missile. The city of Dnipro was attacked.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is using Ukraine as a testing ground for the latest weapons. According to him, the Russian authorities are once again demonstrating their contempt for human life, dignity, and freedom by using the latest missiles.

Later, Putin said that Russia had hit the Dnipro with an Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile. According to him, it was a test run of the missile.
