Region of Ukraine that suffered the most from Russian shelling of energy facilities has been named

The expert told which regions of Ukraine suffered the most from the shelling of energy facilities

In Ukraine, the de-occupied territories and those where hostilities are taking place have suffered the most from the shelling of our country's energy infrastructure by the terrorist country Russia. The damage was particularly severe in the Kherson region, where the occupiers destroyed all energy facilities.

This was stated by Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Centre, in an interview with OBOZREVATEL. The full text of the interview will be published on the website soon.

"The de-occupied territories suffered the most. The territories where the fighting is going on suffer the most. The Kherson region - everything has been destroyed there, i.e. they (Russians - Ed.) were retreating from there, as they said "planned", so they destroyed everything there to the ground. They blew up the power poles, every transformer, everything that could be destroyed was destroyed," the expert said.

He added that while in the Kharkiv region the occupiers were fleeing and did not have time to destroy energy facilities, the Kherson region was destroyed "to zero". "In fact, it will be the most difficult there. I'm afraid to think what will happen in the Donetsk region, because the fighting that is going on there and what will happen next is completely unpredictable," Kharchenko concluded.

The expert also added that it will take up to 5-7 years to fully restore the energy system in Ukraine. At the same time, it will take about 2-2.5 years to restore normal operation.

Kharchenko noted that it would take about $2 billion to simply restore only moderate-baseline capacity in 2023-2024. But this amount is not for a full restoration, but only to "bring the power system back to its senses".

As previously reported by OBOZREVATEL, electricity exports from Ukraine help keep electricity tariffs at the current level (UAH 1.44 per kWh for consumption up to 250 kWh per month, and UAH 1.68 for higher consumption). However, it is impossible to say how long the sale of electricity abroad will last.
