Occupants damaged the anti-radiation barrier at Zaporizhzhya NPP: what is known
The situation at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant has deteriorated. Irresponsible and unpredictable actions of the occupants led to a breach of the integrity of one of the barriers to the spread of radiation into the environment.
This happened at power unit No. 4, which the invaders put into a state of "hot shutdown" in violation of the terms of the plant's license, together with a number of other actions of the Russian occupants, this increases the threat to the safety of the plant and its existence as a whole. This was told by the head of Gosatomregulirovanie Oleg Korikov on the air of the telethon.
According to the acting head of Gosatomregulirovanie, as a result of the occupants' actions, one of the barriers protecting the environment and people from the spread of radiation was damaged at the station.
"At the nuclear power plant, a set of measures is built at the nuclear facility to ensure that in addition to producing steam, the population and the environment are protected from unacceptable exposure to radiation, which is harmful to health and the environment. Barriers are built on the paths of potential spread of radiation. What happened in terms of safety at power unit No. 4? The integrity of one of the barriers on the way of radiation propagation into the environment was broken. The first circuit is the water washing the nuclear fuel. It appeared in the second circuit, which should go to produce electricity in the turbine generator," he said.
Earlier, the occupiers put power unit No. 4 into a "hot shutdown" state. And this move was another link in the chain of "irresponsible and unpredictable actions of the occupiers."
"This happens in violation of the terms of the license, according to which it is allowed to operate Zaporizhzhya NPP only in a "cold" state. "Cold" state is the safest, if we can talk about safety in the conditions of occupation, when God knows who is there, and in the absence of the Kakhovka reservoir, which was a reliable source of water resources for Zaporizhzhya NPP, and in the absence of a reliable connection with the Ukrainian power system," Korikov noted.
We shall remind you that it became known on August 11 that there was an incident with water leakage at Zaporizhzhya NPP. After that, the occupants decided to transfer the mentioned power unit from "hot" to "cold shutdown". At the same time, the occupants want ZNPP's sixth power unit to be in a "hot shutdown" state, which is another violation of license conditions and Energoatom's requirements.
The president of NAEK "Energoatom" Petro Kotin emphasized that incompetent illegitimate "management" of the plant from "Rosatom" consistently puts ZNPP units out of operation.
"And this crime with intentional damage to the equipment of the fourth power unit, which led to the violation of the integrity of already three of the five existing physical barriers to the spread of radiation, leakage of potentially radioactive water of the first circuit beyond the established limits, damage to expensive equipment of the first circuit will be investigated," he said.
