Ukraine will soon receive dozens of Leopards from Germany and Denmark: Pistorius reveals details
Ukraine will receive dozens of Leopard 1A5 battle tanks from Germany and Denmark. They will be delivered to our country in the coming weeks as part of military aid.
This was stated by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita. He also announced the supply of additional Iris-T air defence systems to Ukraine.
"In the coming weeks, dozens of Leopard 1 A5 battle tanks provided by Germany and Denmark will be delivered to Ukraine. In addition, in May alone, we prepared a new aid package worth EUR 2.7 billion, which includes additional urgently needed weapons such as the new Iris-T SLM air defence systems," Pistorius said.
He noted that Germany provides Ukraine with the world's second largest and Europe's largest military aid, financial assistance within the EU, and training for Ukrainian military personnel.
Boris Pistorius stressed that the main thing is for Ukraine to win. Therefore, Germany will support it as long as necessary. But the terms of peace must be determined by Ukrainians themselves.
"The main thing is for Ukraine to win! Only Ukrainians can determine the conditions for ending the war of aggression, which is contrary to international law. We will support Ukraine as long as it is necessary to defend against Russia's brutal attack. To this end, we provide the second largest military assistance in the world after the United States and the largest military assistance in Europe, which includes, among other things, air defence systems, tanks, artillery, logistics, repairs, etc.", the German Defence Minister said.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, earlier Boris Pistorius announced that Germany would send additional tanks to the Ukrainian army. According to him, it is about more than a hundred Leopard 1 tanks.
Switzerland has rejected a request to sell almost 100 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine. The Federal Council explained that this contradicts the current legislation, which prioritises the country's neutrality policy and its reliability as a constitutional state.
