Russian fencers will not compete at the Olympics

The entire Russian fencing team will miss the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. None of the athletes took part in the European qualifying competitions and, accordingly, were not included in the application list for the tournament in the French capital.

This was stated in an interview with the AFP news agency by the President of the European Fencing Federation (EFC) Giorgio Scarso. According to him, the Russians did not explain their decision to boycott the Games. Belarusian fencers will not go to Paris either.

"Unfortunately, there will be no Russian or Belarusian athletes. The date of enrollment has passed. The reason for their absence is unknown, and we have not received an official letter explaining this," Skarso said.

Earlier, Olha Harlan's rivals, Olga Nikitina and Sofia Pozdnyakova, who was demanded to give up her gold medals at the 2020 Olympics, announced their refusal to go to Paris 2024. And the head of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF), Ilgar Mamedov, said that none of the Russian fencers would compete at the Games.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, it became known that representatives of the Russian national swimming team will not participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. And the team's head coach Sergey Chepik called the Olympic Games a tournament of "NATO countries and their minions."
