"It's a humiliation, but on the other hand..." Russian Olympic champion reacts epically to IOC's decision to allow Russians to participate in the Olympics

Fedorovtsev criticized the IOC

Olympic champion in rowing Sergei Fedorovtsev spoke about the need for Russian athletes to boycott the 2024 Games in Paris. The winner of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens called the conditions for the admission of athletes from the Russian Federation under a neutral flag and the national anthem unacceptable, but then mentioned his daughters.

Fedorovtsev said this in a commentary to the Metaratings portal, assessing the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russians to compete in the French capital. The former rower decided to repeat the Kremlin propaganda narratives about the humiliation of Russian representatives, but at the same time mentioned the need to develop the careers of young athletes.

"For me, as a patriot and an ordinary citizen of the Russian Federation, going to the Olympic Games in a neutral status is unacceptable. I think it is a humiliation. But on the other hand, I am the father of two young athletes of the Olympic team. So this is a difficult question for me. My answer as an ordinary citizen is that going under a neutral status is a humiliation, and we shouldn't do it," Fedorovtsev said.

Earlier, Ukraine's acting Sports Minister Matvey Bidniy called the IOC's decision to allow Russians to compete in the 2024 Games irresponsible and also named the condition under which our country would boycott the Olympics. The Russian Federation also reacted angrily to the conditions of athletes' admission to the competition.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the International Athletics Federation announced the complete suspension of Russian athletes from the Olympics in Paris.
