It took a photo finish: Ukraine takes silver in canoeing at the 2024 Olympics

Ukrainians Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Rybachok became the runners-up at the 2024 Olympic Games, which are currently ending in Paris. Our girls won silver in the women's double sculls at a distance of 500 meters.

Luzan and Rybachok decided not to go all out from the start, but to rely on the final stretch of the race. After the first 200 meters, the Ukrainians were only sixth among the eight participants in the final.

After that, the blue and yellows began to gradually pick up the pace and unhook one opponent after another. With 100 meters to go, it became clear that the Ukrainians were going for a medal.

In the last meters of the course, the fight between our team, representatives of Hungary and Canada unfolded. As a result, our country's neighbors became redundant in the top three, and the Ukrainians and Canadians crossed the finish line at the same time.

The organizers had to determine the winners using a photo finish. It determined that Liudmyla and Anastasiia were only six hundredths of a second faster than their rivals.

Thus, Luzan and Ribachok became the vice-champions of Paris 2024. They brought Ukraine its 11th medal of the 2024 Games.
