"I'm for clean sport": Russian Olympic champion who took part in Z-meeting refuses to go to the 2024 Olympics
Two-time Olympic champion Yevgeny Rylov has refused to participate in the 2024 Games to be held in the French capital of Paris. The swimmer, who openly supports his country's criminal war against Ukraine, advocated "clean sport" and criticized the conditions for allowing athletes from the Russian Federation to participate in international tournaments.
Rylov said this on the air of the propaganda TV channel "Match TV". The participant of the Z-meeting in Luzhniki last March, for which he was disqualified for nine months, made a pompous speech about the alleged greatness of Russia and called the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow athletes from Russia to participate in the 2024 Games a provocation.
"My country has never given up and has always come out of a difficult situation. As our president said, we must believe in the great Russian people. I want to live up to this and I am not going to stoop to the level of Western provocateurs. Russia is a great country. Now we have a replacement for international competitions, but they also want to ban them. I'm not going to go after the IOC, I'm for clean sport. I have made a balanced decision: I refuse to go to the Olympic Games until all this nonsense settles down and our water becomes clean again. I am honest with myself, true to my choice and my country," Rylov said.
Earlier, the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (ARRGF) announced its refusal to participate in all international competitions in a neutral status.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, two-time Olympic champion Svetlana Ishmuratova made a delusion that the world sports community could not exist without Russia.
