In the Kherson region, an 84-year-old pensioner, Maria Leontiivna, who survived the Second World War, was rescued from her home, which was flooded after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station exploded. By coincidence, the rescuer who took her out by boat was her student.

This was reported by the official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. "A story that makes you cry..." - the post reads.

The press service said that the 84-year-old Ukrainian was asked to help by her daughter. "The rescuer who came to evacuate the woman recognised her as his teacher. Was it a coincidence? Was it an accident? No - it's fate to be where you are needed!" the Ministry of Internal Affairs is confident.

The Ministry shared compassionate photos of Maria Leontiivna and the team that rescued her.

"She is a child of war who was forced by the Russians to go through hell again," the ministry wrote.

They assured that no Russian terrorist would stop the SES in its efforts to save every life of the highest value. The evacuation continues despite the threat of shelling.

"This story shows us that even in the darkest of times, when the whole world seems hopeless, there is hope and strength that unites us," the press service added.
