"We couldn't even imagine this": residents of Kherson talk about the situation in the city
Kherson was flooded after Russian terrorists blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. In some areas of the city, the water level is 1.5 and even 2 metres.
Residents of Kherson, speaking about the situation in the city, say that they could not have even dreamed of what is happening. They told journalists of the Ukrainian Witness project about this.
The water level in the Korabelny district of the city is so high that you can only get there in special protection. Moreover, the water keeps coming.
So far, people and animals are being helped by patrol police, the State Emergency Service, volunteers and concerned citizens. They move around the city with bags, packages and cages with pets.
Among the evacuees are also entrepreneurs whose businesses have suffered from the criminal actions of the occupiers.
"Everything has suffered. Everyone has suffered," said the owner of one of the flooded shops.
It is noted that the evacuation of civilians is taking place in conditions of constant danger, as Russians on the left bank of the Dnipro River are attacking civilians with mortars and artillery. The evacuation involves not only local residents but also volunteers from across the country.
Kherson residents are rescuing not only their own animals but also stray animals: one local resident took her dog with her, which had become attached to her during the evacuation.
As of June 7, about 1,500 people had been evacuated. Volunteers, police and rescuers are taking people in evacuation buses to safe places.
It is worth noting that after the Russian occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, water has been flooding the right and left banks of the Kherson region for three days. The situation is most difficult on the left bank, with many more settlements flooded there. At the same time, the Russian military is not helping people. The town of Oleshky is almost completely under water. Residents are sleeping on the roofs and begging for help.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, on the afternoon of June 8, the occupiers opened fire on Kherson and Kherson district while civilians were being evacuated from flooded settlements in the region after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station was blown up. There were wounded.
