"Ukraine is on its way to victory": Zelensky spoke to the Rada on Constitution Day and named the key challenges for Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Verkhovna Rada on June 28, Constitution Day. He said that our country is going step by step to victory in the war for freedom and independence.
"In all its efforts Russia is losing, and this is no longer a dream, but a reality. Even now, despite the war, we are on the road to change," the President said. The event was broadcast live on "Yedyni novyny" marathon (to see the video, scroll to the end of the page).
"Whether the nations of the world will have peace and whether humanity will endure on earth now depends on how we end this war, and on whether the lives of victorious Ukrainians will affirm freedom as much as the fight for it affirms," Zelensky said.
The President stressed that our country must chase away all occupiers from all our territories, independently determine its future, including membership in international political and military organizations. Ukraine will only strengthen both the EU and NATO, Zelensky believes.
"Ukraine will choose its own alliances for itself and its future, it is obviously in the European Union, obviously in NATO. We must realize that the way to the main goal, to our victory, is difficult. And now no one can yet say when we will get there to the end. But there must be national agreement on the definition of our victory. When the goal is clear and fair it does not matter how difficult the way to that goal is," the Ukrainian leader said.
He noted that Ukrainians would never agree to a frozen conflict. In this context the guarantor reminded about the Ukrainian peace formula. It, he said, is universal and can help other countries that have faced aggression.
Zelensky also brought up for discussion a doctrine for Ukraine, which has five main guidelines and directions that the nation defines as important:
- philosophy of victory;
- global Ukrainian security;
- the policy of heroes;
- the policy of justice;
"Today I offered, the main reference points of the future Ukrainian doctrine for nationwide discussion. We need a common vision of what Ukraine's victory will be like," the president wrote in his Telegram channel. He stressed that this doctrine "must answer all the fundamental questions about Ukraine and our future: for ourselves, our neighbors, and everyone in the world."
According to him, we have already shown that courage gives freedom, and we will prove and make it a Ukrainian axiom that freedom gives success.
"This is what all of our land needs. All of our people. All parts of Ukraine, all children of Ukraine... But for this success to take place, the Ukrainian state needs transformation. And we will make the transformation that Ukrainians have dreamed of a reality," the country's leader said.
