Volvo is synonymous with reliability and comfort. It recently became known that the auto giant will release 10 new and updated models over the next 24 months.

According to Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan, the company's plans are very ambitious. The updated XC90 large crossover has already been unveiled, and dealers have had a chance to test the new EX90 compact electric car - it will hit the car market later this year.

The Volvo EX60 electric midsize crossover, the ES90 sedan and a new hybrid crossover are already in the development phase. Overall, Volvo's strategic plans include releasing a new model every year and refreshing the lineup over the next 8 years.

Given the significant drop in electric car sales and the growing demand for hybrids, Volvo has adjusted its future plans. The company has given up on a full switch to electric traction by 2030. Experts say PHEVs and BEVs will account for at least 90% of sales. Volvo will continue to invest in hybrids based on the XC90 and XC60 models. Modernization also includes the use of energy-efficient electric motors and high-quality, high-capacity batteries.

The new PHEVs with longer range will have the first-generation product architecture or SPA1 underpinning the XC90 and XC60 crossovers.

Eric Severinson, Volvo's Chief Strategy Officer, emphasized that the electric range of the new PHEVs will increase significantly compared to the XC90.

"We will continue to upgrade the SPA1 into PHEVs with even greater range," the expert noted.

The XC90 and XC60 crossovers will be equipped with new batteries with longer range and energy-efficient electric motors. Volvo is developing a new technological basis for next-generation electric cars.

The updated flagship XC90 will have an improved suspension and will showcase stylish designs. Similar updates are planned for the electrified XC60 and XC40 models.

Volvo's electric cars will debut with the ES90 sedan as early as 2025. Experts say that the ES90 will be a worthy competitor to the Tesla Model S, Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5. It will be the latest model based on the SPA2 platform. Electric cars will go on sale in two variants: with one and two engines and will be able to overcome from 480 to 645 kilometers without recharging.

The EX60 crossover is planned to be released in 2026. The basis will be the SPA3 platform, offering denser battery cells, which will provide a greater range.
