Ukraine wins first gold medal of the 2024 Paralympic Games in athletics

The 43-year-old athlete became a 5-time champion

Ukraine has won its second gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics and the first in athletics. Oksana Zubkovska became the champion in the long jump in the T12 class (athletes with poor eyesight and blindness who run on the track accompanied by guides).

The victory was won by our compatriot in the fifth attempt, in which Oksana jumped 5.78. She was separated from the second place winner by 38 centimeters.

The 43-year-old native of Chernihiv region became a Paralympic champion for the fifth time in a row. Her medal is the 21st for Ukraine at the Paris Games (🥇2 + 🥈10 + 🥉9).

As OBOZ.UA reported, 3 years ago Zubkovska was the first in the long jump sector at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The Ukrainian did not leave any chance to her rivals, showing a result of 5.54 meters. Oksana's closest competitor, the Spaniard Sara Martinez, jumped 16 centimeters closer.
