Paralympics 2024 is over: where Ukraine stands and how many medals
The XVII Paralympic Summer Games 2024 have ended in the French capital of Paris. Athletes from 170 countries competed for 549 awards in 22 sports.
Ukraine won 82 medals - 22 gold, 28 silver and 32 bronze. This is the fifth best result among all teams at the Paralympic Games in Paris in terms of the number of medals and seventh place in the official medal standings.
Ukraine won the largest number of awards in swimming (40), with Andriy Trusov leading the way with five medals. The 24-year-old representative of Donetsk region competed in the S7 class (swimmers with mild or moderate impairment of movements in the arms, torso and legs, with growth disorders or missing limbs).
Trusov took gold in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly, as well as silver in the 400-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter individual medley.
In total, Ukraine was represented at the tournament by 140 athletes in 17 disciplines. The largest number of our compatriots competed in swimming (37 people) and athletics (28).
At the last Paralympic Games 2024 in Tokyo, the Ukrainian team was among the top 5 in the medal standings by the number of awards - our compatriots won 98 medals (24 gold, 47 silver and 37 bronze).
Swimmer Anton Kol brought the first award to our country in Paris. The 34-year-old native of Nikopol in the S1 class (severe motor disorders) won silver in the 100-meter backstroke in a tough fight. Oleksandr Komarov won his debut gold medal for Ukraine in the 100-meter freestyle.
