"Inside Out 2" became the most successful animated movie in history: what other cartoons have raised a billion

There's a reshuffle at the top of the list of top-grossing Hollywood cartoons. Disney's "Frozen 2" has overtaken this year's sequel, Pixar's "Inside Out."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, last weekend's estimates showed that the premiere crossed the $1.462 billion mark in revenue. At the same time, $601 million of them were collected in the domestic US market and $861.8 – outside the US.

Thus, "Frozen 2" dropped to second place with $1.451 billion in grosses. The full list of billionaire animated films today looks like this:

• "Inside Out 2," Pixar – $1.462 billion;
• "Frozen 2," Disney – 1.451 billion dollars;
• "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," Illumination – 1.361 billion dollars;
• "Frozen," Disney – 1.274 billion dollars;

• "Toy Story 4," Pixar – 1.072 billion dollars;

At the same time, "Inside Out 2" rose to 13th place in the consolidated list of the highest-grossing films of all time. The animation also managed to beat last year's record holder, the movie "Barbie" starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. In addition, the film is one step away from surpassing "The Incredibles 2" in terms of domestic box office in the United States.

The success of "Inside Out 2" is called the biggest surprise of the season. First of all, parents have recently begun to prefer watching animated premieres with their children at home, so cartoons in theaters are not grossing much money. In addition, Pixar has recently started having problems: three of its films in a row did not make it to theaters and were released on streaming.

The second part of the animated movie about emotions introduces a new set of main characters. As the main character Riley becomes a teenager, Anxiety, Envy, Boredom, and Confusion move into her head along with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. The film has been called a brilliant statement about the emotional changes that puberty brings, and many educators and psychologists promote it as educational material and a reason to talk to teenagers.

"Inside Out 2" was launched in theaters on June 14 this year and reached the $1 billion mark in a record-breaking 19 days. For comparison, the box office of the first part of the cartoon for the entire period of distribution amounted to $ 858.8 million.
