Zinchenko, who came to Kyiv from England, heard the air raid for the first time and described how it felt
Arsenal London footballer Oleksandr Zinchenko has spoken about the feelings he had when he heard his first air raid siren. The Ukrainian national team player had briefly returned to Kyiv when the air raid alert was announced at 2:30 am.
Zinchenko was sleeping in his apartment with his wife and her brother.
"Suddenly I heard a howling sound, like in a horror movie. It was so loud. I woke up, but I was very tired. I had spent many hours driving that day. My wife wanted to go to the underground parking lot to hide, but I said: "Listen, honestly, I'm so tired I can't go. I just want to stay here in bed." They both went to the window to see what was happening in the sky," Oleksandr wrote in his autobiographical book "Believe," as quoted by Tribuna.
The football player recalls that our air defense systems were shooting down drones and missiles right over the building.
"There were so many big explosions. I was too tired to get out of bed, but I could hear the explosions. I thought about parents trying to calm their children at such moments. How do you put your children to sleep and calm them down when sirens are blaring and missiles are flying in your direction? The whole city was on its feet, afraid that the bombs would fall on them. It's so sad to think that children have had to live like this for more than two years now, and there is no end in sight," Zinchenko said.
