Transformation into a full-cycle agency: a new branch formed in the Ministry of Health
The State Enterprise Ukrmedpostach of the Ministry of Health has been reorganized and officially merged with Medical Procurement of Ukraine as its branch. Consequently, the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine has gained its own warehouse facilities.
According to the Director-General of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine, Edem Adamanov, this marks a step towards transforming the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine into a full-cycle agency, significantly improving the provision of necessary medical products to Ukrainians.
"We are globally shifting our focus from procurement procedures to providing medicines in each region of Ukraine. Currently, we mostly ship medicines based on hospitals' annual needs. However, next year, we will change our approach. We will monitor the supply levels and provide medical products in small batches so that healthcare facilities always have an optimal stock of medicines. Therefore, it is crucial for hospitals to provide timely information on the balances of medical supplies and their usage," stated Edem Adamanov.
Andrii Tokarchuk, the project coordinator for the reorganization of Ukrmedpostach, has become the head of the newly opened branch.
The next steps involve renovating the premises, modernizing the warehouse, and further enhancing business processes in line with the best international practices.
Presently, the warehouse can accommodate 669 full-capacity pallets and includes around 50 freezers with different storage temperatures.
The reorganization process received support from USAID and the Safe, Affordable, and Effective Medicines for Ukrainians (SAFEMed) project.
For reference, in 2022, the Ministry of Health initiated the reorganization of Ukrmedpostach. This process was one of the key points of the Ministry of Health Development Strategy for 2021-2023.
