There will be no more affordable SEAT cars: the company will stop producing cars
The automotive division of the Spanish company SEAT, known since 1950 as a manufacturer of affordable cars, will be closed in favor of another company. The parent concern Vokswagen has already decided everything.
This is reported by Autocar. SEAT will no longer produce cars. This will be done by the Cupra brand, which until 2018 was a line of sports models of the Spanish company, and now is a separate brand.
Cupra will focus on hybrids and electric vehicles. Vokswagen drew attention to the positive market reaction to the launch of a separate brand and noted high demand. At the same time, the popularity of SEAT itself is declining.
As a result, the company's automotive division was closed. However, the name will remain – for the production of other vehicles (such as scooters) and some other solutions in the field of modern mobility.
The current SEAT models will remain on the market for some time, but they will not receive new generations. Earlier, it was reported that the cars would stop being produced in 2030. This is due to both falling demand and strict emission control requirements. And there are no plans to add electric cars to the model lineup.
