The best animated series of the 1990s with unconventional plot

Top 7 best animated series of our childhood

In the 90s, Ukrainian television broadcast many foreign cartoons with unconventional plots. After the "Soviet classics," a superhero duck in a cape and ninja turtles with swords became the beginning of a new era.

OBOZREVATEL decided to get nostalgic and recall the best cartoon series that were shown on TV in the 1990s. You've definitely heard of them!

Darkwing Duck

Few people know, but the Black Cloak cartoon is a parody of Batman and his world. The protagonist is a somnolent duck who loves pretentious phrases like "The terror that flies on the wings of the night". He often finds himself in ridiculous situations and gets out of them at the last minute.

It's interesting to note that thanks to this children's show, many people learned about the superhero genre and its clichés before they got acquainted with the original Batman and Marvel and DC films.

Duck Tales

Everyone ran to the TV to see this cartoon - the yards were empty because the episode about the greedy but funny Uncle Scrooge McDuck was starting. This was the first Disney cartoon that Soviet children saw on TV.

The plot centered on the adventures of Uncle Scrooge bathing in gold coins, his nephews, and Launchpad McQuack.

Chip 'n' Dale

The heroes of this Disney cartoon were not ducks, but brave chipmunks Chip and Dale, a fly named Zipper, and mice named Gadget Hackwrench and Moyntery Jack. The rodents had to confront their enemies: a mad scientist and the mafia Fat Cat.

It was thanks to Gadget Hackwrench's intelligence that the rescuers were able to arm themselves with super-agent gadgets, fly an airship, and resist the villains.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

There are dozens of film adaptations about the green-skinned mutants living in the sewers, but children of the 1990s remember only the 1987 animated series.

It was a real children's action movie about four turtles Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello, who love pizza and know martial arts too well.

Many people still remember the theme song.

After the show was canceled, many tried to recreate the magic of this series, just like Chip 'n' Dale, but we don't think anyone has succeeded.

TaleSpin

TaleSpin is a multi-episode fairy tale about the bear pilot Baloo and his faithful navigator, Kit. The characters had to fight air pirates and deliver cargo to different parts of the world.

Against the background of other Disney "plush" characters, the romance of "Wonderland" immediately caught the eye: propeller planes and seaplanes, giant flying aircraft carriers, etc.

Batman

It was in this 1992 cartoon that viewers first met Harley Quinn, hopelessly in love with the Joker. This animated series was bold enough to introduce new characters into the plot, and some of them were so successful that they were taken into comics and made part of the official canon.

The success of the Batman animated series also paved the way for later adventure animated films aimed at teenagers and adults rather than kids.

Animaniacs

In the 1990s, Steven Spielberg was actively producing cartoons. Animaniacs was the best animated series created under him. The main characters were modified mice Pinky and The Brain, who tried to take over the world.

Few people would remember now, but Animaniacs contained many adult jokes and political parodies, and even a song listing all the US presidents.
