Panforte: how to make a traditional Christmas cake with nuts and spices
Panforte is a traditional Italian pie that is usually prepared for Christmas. The dessert is shaped like a cake and contains a lot of nuts, dried fruits, and spices.
Food blogger Valentyna Kushch shared how to make panforte at home on Instagram. Following her recipe, the cake will turn out no worse than in her homeland.
Ingredients for a d20 cm baking dish:
- Roasted almond and hazelnut mixture - 200 g
- Dried fruits - 300 gr
- Flour - 100 gr
- Cocoa - 20 gr
- Honey - 150 gr
- Sugar - 150 g
- Cinnamon - 1 tsp
- Cardamom - a pinch
- Black pepper - a pinch
- Butter - for lubrication
- Powdered sugar - for powdering
Method of preparation:
1. Soak the dried fruits in boiling water and cut them into small pieces. Nuts may not be cut but can be halved.
2. Mix all dry ingredients except sugar.
3. Mix the sugar with honey and bring it to homogeneity on the stove.
4. Add the syrup to the dry ingredients and mix quickly.
5. Put the parchment in the baking dish and grease it with butter.
6. Put the dough on the parchment, helping with wet hands.
7. Bake at 150 for about 30-40 minutes.
8. Let it cool in the mold.
9. After 30 minutes, take it out, sprinkle it with powder, and cut into thin slices.
