Spathiphyllum is one of the favorite houseplants around the world. It does not require complicated care and at the same time blooms very beautifully and for a long time. But sometimes it can be very stubborn and stop producing buds.

Of course, even without flowers, spathiphyllum foliage looks luxurious. But you also want to restore its desire to bloom from time to time. Petar Ivanov, a gardening expert, told the Express how to do this with the help of kitchen waste.

"Just like any other plant, spathiphyllum can benefit from a little flowering stimulation," the expert says. According to him, the ingredients for fertilizer that should be used to feed this particular plant should be rich in potassium, which stimulates the appearance of buds on the plant.

Ivanov called eggshells a good choice. In addition to potassium, it contains a lot of calcium, which is easily absorbed by the substrate in which the flower grows.

Another good choice, according to the expert, is coffee grounds. It contains nitrogen and phosphorus, which promote healthy plant growth. "However, it will take a little longer because ideally, coffee grounds should be added to compost first so that they can break down before being applied to the plant's soil," he explained.

But the best fertilizer for spathiphyllums, Ivanov said, is banana peels. According to him, this particular type of kitchen waste contains perfectly balanced nutrients necessary for the plant.

However, all these natural fertilizing products should be used only during the period of active growth of spathiphyllum, which is in spring and summer. These fertilizers should be applied once a month. Alternating all three products can also be effective. This way, the flower will receive all the nutrients it needs. And in a moderate concentration.

But in the winter months, you should give the spathiphyllum a rest. It has to gain strength for the next flowering season.
