For many people, a summer house is a place to relax, grow organic food, and express themselves. However, every gardener faces certain difficulties, such as the need to control unwanted plants.

Hops are often planted to make a living fence, but this plant grows quite quickly and can appear where it shouldn't. That's why Fazenda has shared effective ways to help you regain control of your land.

There are two types of hops. Japanese hops are an annual plant that you don't have to fight because in the fall it will shed its leaves and won't grow again, and common hops, which often cause problems for gardeners. It grows rapidly and oppresses other plants. The roots of common hops penetrate deep into the soil, making it difficult to remove.

Digging it up

This method requires patience and good physical fitness. It is also time-consuming, but quite effective.

You need to dig up the soil at a depth of 30 cm to remove all the roots. However, small hop sprouts may appear over time. Remove them immediately before they get too big.

Vinegar

Acid has a negative effect on plants, so you can simply pour a little vinegar under the root or dilute the 9% liquid with water in a 1:1 ratio. It is important to water even the smallest sprouts to get rid of the plant faster.

Frost

In late fall, dig up the root and cover it with water. Then, with the arrival of winter frosts, the plant will freeze very quickly, weaken, and probably will not be able to grow normally anymore.

To increase the effectiveness of the procedure, cut off all the stems to the root in the spring and cover the remaining hops with plenty of soil.

Salt

If hops are growing in an area where you do not plan to plant anything, you can fight them with salt.

Turn up the soil at the root and cover it with salt so that its layer is at least 1 cm. After that, the plant will become weak and will not be able to grow quickly. This is when you need to uproot it.

Fertilization

Hops do not tolerate excess fertilizer, so you can cover them with nitrate and water them abundantly. After that, the plant will begin to dry out. However, keep in mind that after that you should not plant anything on this land for several years because the harvest will be meager.

Boiling water

This is the easiest and most budget-friendly way to control hops. All you need to do is pour boiling water under the root of the plant and on the leaves. The procedure should be repeated several times so that the hops quickly begin to wither and rot.

Herbicides

Chemicals, such as herbicides, are quite effective in the fight against hops. Thanks to them, the unwanted plant will disappear for many years, and neighboring crops will not be affected. The main thing is to follow safety rules and instructions when using chemicals.
