Silver cutlery is a luxurious item that can be used to decorate even a festive table. But the requirements for cleaning them are quite high, as they are prone to stains and tarnish, and you can't treat them with abrasives, as this will leave visible scratches.

However, one simple food product can solve all these problems at once. As OBOZ.UA found out, it is corn starch. Its abrasiveness is quite moderate and at the same time it copes well with stains typical for silverware. Another advantage of starch is that it is both cheap and environmentally friendly.

To clean tarnished or soiled silverware with cornstarch, mix up a cleaning solution. Add one part starch to three parts water to make a smooth paste. Use a cloth to apply the mixture to your forks, spoons, and knives and let it dry. Then use a cloth to rub the items in a circular motion. This should remove stains and tarnish. Finally, wash and dry the cutlery as you would normally.

However, cleaning with starch is not the only way to get rid of stains on silverware. White vinegar in combination with baking soda can also help. To make a cleaner for these items, mix ½ cup of vinegar with 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a large bowl. Put all the items that need cleaning in this solution and let it sit for at least two hours. And then wash all the items as usual.
